National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO®) Exam Information

Eligibility

Any applicant that meets the NCSO® qualifying standard will be permitted to challenge the National NCSO® exam.

Fee

There is an exam fee of $50.00 (plus HST) that must be received with the NCSO® application

Duration

Participants will have the maximum of two hours to complete the National exam.

Those required to write the Provincial exam will be given an additional hour to complete.

Pass Mark

Applicants must receive a grade of 75% or better in both the Provincial and National exams in order to be eligible for the NCSO®
Unsuccessful applicants must wait a minimum of 90 days prior to challenging the exam again.

Applicants can challenge the exam three (3) times. Applicants that are unsuccessful after 3 attempts must start the application process again.

Other

The National exam is a closed book exam. No materials or electronic devices are permitted in the room.

Verification of Identity

Applicants will be required to verify their identity on exam day by presenting a Government issued Photo ID and will not be permitted to write the exam before showing proof of identity.

Exam Schedule

Exam days are included on the NBCSA Training Schedule.

Note- NBCSA must receive NCSO® applications at a minimum of one month prior to the exam date. Applicants who do not have all required qualifications will not be permitted to write the exam.

National Exam Content

Exam questions have been drawn from a bank of approved questions. Question formats are multiple choice.

Exam Preparation

It is suggested that you begin your preparation for the exam by reviewing the contents from the compulsory course list. Ensure that you understand key terms and definitions. Start with the specifics and move to more general information. Allow yourself adequate time to prepare.

Provincial Exam

The Provincial Exam is based on The New Brunswick Occupational Health and Safety Act and General Regulations 91-191, WHMIS Regulation 2016-6 and First Aid Regulations 2004-130. Applicants should be comfortable with accessing information in any or all of these regulations.
